About the Centre

For over 25 years, young riders have been an intrinsic part of Crossogue during the summer holiday period with the house being used exclusively for our younger visitors at this time. Crossogue has a unique atmosphere with many teenagers returning year after year to their home away from home.

There are six children in the Molloy family and today the summer camps are just like how we experienced our summers with our friends when we were teenagers. Our young guests enjoy the change of scenery and the variety of activities that they have come to expect at Crossogue.

While we offer tuition in a number of disciplines, our specialty is riding in open countryside and we offer riders of all standards the opportunity to enjoy riding throughout Crossogue farm. This can be a gentle ride for those who want to relax and simply enjoy being on horseback and being part of the nature that surrounds them. For the more adventurous, there are gallops and a diverse range of cross country obstacles all over the farm with lots of challenges for both horse and rider. With all our riders, we first spend time in the arena, so we can get to know you and you can get to know your horse and develop confidence in the partnership before embarking on the challenges that await.

With our expert instructors and well trained horses in cross-country jumping you will quickly develop the confidence to tackle our large selection of well-made obstacles for all standards of rider.

About The Horses

We have excellent horses and ponies for all levels of rider and each guest has their own horse or pony for the duration of their stay. This gives them the chance to nurture a bond and the confidence to develop their riding skills.

At Crossogue we keep up to 70 guest horses and ponies at any one time. Ranging from 12hh to 17hh and of all levels. As our guests range in age from 10 upwards and of all abilities, our range of horses vary greatly. All our horses are carefully chosen to suit their rider’s ability and goals for their visit. For novice riders, we have a range of quiet schoolmasters and for our more advanced guests, we can provide a more challenging ride. Our horses are all traditionally Irish bred, from Connemara’s to Irish sport horses.

About the Facilities and Accommodation

At Crossogue we cater for all levels of riders from beginners right up to experienced competition riders. While our focus is on cross-country riding, we also ensure the kids engage in a variety of equestrian activities while here, such as showjumping and hacks through the farm.

During the day when guests are not riding, we have a number of alternative activities at Crossogue including tennis, badminton, table tennis, games, walks on the farm as well as organised team activities and fun competitions. We also show films in the evening. On Sundays, the only non riding day, guests go on an excursion to a place or event of interest and to see a little of Ireland in the process.

Crossogue, a Listed Georgian period house is constantly alive with the buzz of people and has a feeling of home away from home to many at this stage.

There are a range of different rooms from ensuite double rooms to double rooms with a shared bath, to dorm-style shared rooms. The house also has a large living room, two games areas, and computer gaming area as well as ample outdoor space which includes a tennis court. Just beyond the house are the stables and fields where the horses can be seen from the house.

Directions to the centre

Crossogue Equestrian Centre is located 7km from Thurles town, which is served by a rail connection from Dublin & Cork.
From Thurles, take the R498 road, then turn off on the R503. Follow this road until BALLYCAHILL. Go through the village (with the THATCH Bar on your right), turn LEFT after the sports field. Continue to the end of this road where you meet a T-junction. Our entrance is straight ahead.

While many guests hire a car, as it allows them the freedom to get about, there is an excellent train service from Heuston Station in Dublin to our local station in Thurles, where we are happy to collect you. It is a very comfortable service and takes just over an hour. It is easy to get to Heuston Station from Dublin Airport by bus or Taxi.
Alternatively, we are happy to organise a private transfer for both individuals and groups, just let us know.
